In the 2018 State of the Nation address delivered in February, His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo expressed grave concern about poor sanitary conditions in the country, describing it as “unacceptable”. He asserted that, “Our cities have been engulfed by filth and there is the urgent need for public authorities to finance and make our cities clean”.

From 2006, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the leading Waste Management Company in Ghana, and its affiliate companies have been in the forefront of undertaking some of the services enumerated under government policy to provide a clean and healthy environment.

Other members of the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) have also played key roles in tackling the waste management industry in Ghana through the introduction of the of integrated waste management solutions.

These includes mechanized door-to-door waste collection system, waste transfer stations, medical waste water treatment plants, compost and recycling plants, waste water and feacal treatment plants, engineered landfills and now the first of its kind in Ghana, the INTEGRATED RECYCLING AND COMPOST PLANT.

As leaders in the industry, our wealth of experience has revealed that Waste disposal in Ghana is gradually shifting from dump sites and engineered landfills to value additions through the use of sustainable (socio-economic and environmentally friendly) technologies

Apart from environmental benefits, the Plants also have enormous benefits in terms of employment generation and provision of raw materials to feed industry. The support of Government is relevant to ensuring that operations become highly successful.

The total estimated waste generation by the country is 13,928 tons a day based on a 2010 population census with estimated projection foe 2019 population at 30,951,302 million. (Source, AfES Consult). It has been observed that, motorized tricycles users prioritize quicker discharge turnaround time over the long distance travelled to discharge waste. Since the facility is located at the heart of town. It will increase its patronage by waste collectors.

In the pursuit of the partnership arrangement between the public sector and the private waste management operators, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, with our strong working philosophy that waste management is more of value addition and material recovery, intend to establish the integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRCoP) in all the sixteen (16) regions of Ghana, using state of the art technology.

Addressing the solid waste management challenges in the cities and towns in Ghana is a collective endeavor. The Recycling and Compost Plants will contributes immensely to addressing these challenges at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
